Condensing Gas Boilers

Condensing boilers are extremely efficient relative to standard boilers. They use less fuel and have lower running costs. Higher efficiency levels are made possible by extracting heat contained in the combustion gases. When replacing your boiler installing a condensing boiler is a statutory requirement.

Boiler Upgrade

Replacing your existing low efficient boiler with a new Condensing High Efficiency model is not a simple swap one for the other procedure. Greenfoot will follow the Guidelines set out in Best Practice. The heating system must first be checked for corrosion to ensure that when drained and refilled that the existing pipework will maintain the desired system pressure. In some cases this may require installing a complete new heating system where corrosion internally would invalidate the new Boiler Warranty. Greenfoot will recommend Heating Controls and  Pipe Insulation when not already installed.

If the existing Heating System is suitable for the new boiler the system must be properly cleansed with Fernox/ Sentinel before hanging the new boiler. Depending on the level of oxidation present in the water this may require each radiator to be flushed and cleansed separately. This level of cleansing will be an extra charge.

Having Cleansed the System properly the boiler is installed including a new circulating pump and Time clock. A condensate drain off pipe will be installed direct to the nearest waste. The new system is now commissioned to manufacturers specification and the Homeowner is guided through the control settings and the operating instructions.

For instance simply replacing a typical 10-year-old oil burning boiler with a gas condensing boiler can produce a 25% saving, not to mention improved reliability and safety.

Boiler Replacement - Statutory requirements:

If you are considering replacing your existing boiler for a more efficient model it not only advisable but is now mandatory to install a high efficiency condensing boiler where possible. (Section L3, Building Regulations Part L amendment – S.I. No. 847 of 2007:- Building Standards)
