Building Energy Rating (BER)

A BER is similar to the energy label for a household electrical appliance like your fridge. The label has a scale of A-G; ā€˜A’ rated homes are the most efficient and ā€˜G’ rated homes are the least efficient.

A BER certificate is compulsory since January 2009 for all homes being sold or leased and for all new homes where planning permission was applied for on or after 1st January 2007.

One of the real benefits of getting your home BER is that after an initial inspection, and prior to issuing the certificate, you will get an energy report which will make recommendations on how you can improve this rating. By implementing some or all of these recommendations you will be saving money and improving the value of your home. The BER Certificate can be issued after the energy saving upgrades. This will give your property a higher rating.
